A breakdown of Ogogo’s family debunking viral birth rumors following his passing, the 2026 Headies Next Rated nominees, Siraheem Okoya’s music exit, and NPFL’s $7.5M sponsorship deal.
1) Ogogo’s Family Debunks Baby Rumors Following Veteran Actor’s Passing

The family of late Nollywood veteran Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, has dismissed viral reports claiming his daughter Shakirat (Kira) recently welcomed a newborn son.
The veteran actor passed away on August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after battling stage four cancer. His daughter Haleemah (Lima) issued a public disclaimer asking media outlets and fans to stop circulating unverified claims so the family can mourn their patriarch in peace.

2) Fola, Shoday, Mavo, Fido, and Llona Nominated for 2026 Headies Next Rated

The organizers of the 18th Headies Awards have officially released the nominee list for the 2026 ceremony scheduled to take place in Canada. The nominees for the 2026 Headies were announced on Tuesday, with the five artistes shortlisted for the highly competitive Next Rated category, which recognises emerging artistes making significant impact in the Nigerian music scene.

Contending for the coveted Next Rated category are rising stars Fola, Shoday, Mavo, Fido, and Llona. Fola emerged as one of the most nominated breakout acts of the year, securing additional nominations for Afrobeats Single of the Year, Best Recording of the Year, and Best R&B Album.

 3) Billionaire’s Son Siraheem Okoya Announces Exit From Music Industry

Recording artist Siraheem Okoya, son of billionaire industrialist Razaq Okoya, has announced his decision to step away from releasing new music. In a statement shared online, Siraheem explained that music began as a hobby with friends and that he can no longer dedicate the required time to the craft alongside his other commitments. He noted, however, that an unreleased album recorded over the past year might still be released in the future.

4) NPFL Lands $7.5 Million Title Sponsorship Deal with 60 Percent Reserved for Clubs

The Nigeria Premier Football League has secured a landmark three year title sponsorship agreement worth $7.5 million with EUROMATCH. Under the terms of the deal, which pays out $2.5 million per season, 60 percent of the total sponsorship funds will be distributed directly to participating clubs.

NPFL Chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye stated that the revenue share is explicitly structured to boost player salaries and elevate welfare across the domestic league.
