THIS WEEK’S THEME: Teaching Children to Love and Obey God

TODAY'S TOPIC: Understanding What It Means to Love God

Hello, dear parents,

Welcome to today’s episode of the Train up a Child Parenting Podcast. I am Pastor August, your daily parenting podcast host.

This week, we are focusing on Teaching Children to Love and Obey God—helping them develop a genuine relationship with Him through love and obedience. Today, we begin by exploring what it truly means to love God and how we can guide our children in showing their love for Him through their actions.

TODAY’S OUTLINE

Here’s what we’ll cover in today’s episode:

1. What It Means to Love God – Understanding that love for God goes beyond words and is expressed through our actions.

2. Guiding Scripture for the Day – A Bible verse that highlights what it means to love God.

3. Ways to Teach Children to Love God – Practical ways parents can help children develop a love for God.

4. Activity: Love in Action – A simple exercise to help children express their love for God through everyday choices.

5. Reflection Time for Parents – Encouraging self-examination on how we model love for God.

6. Let’s Have a Word of Prayer – Asking God to help us raise children who love and honour Him.

7. Looking Ahead – A preview of tomorrow’s topic.

8. Closing Blessing – Encouragement to cultivate love for God in your child’s heart.

WHAT IT MEANS TO LOVE GOD

Loving God is more than saying, "I love God." It means:

1. Obeying His Word – True love for God is reflected in obedience to His commands.

2. Spending Time with Him – Just as we build relationships with loved ones, we must teach children to spend time with God in prayer and worship.

3. Trusting Him – Teaching children to trust God in all circumstances shows their love for Him.

4. Loving Others – When children show kindness and care for others, they reflect God’s love.

Teaching our children that love for God is a daily commitment will help them grow in faith and obedience.

GUIDING SCRIPTURE FOR THE DAY

John 14:15 – “If you love me, keep my commands.”

This verse reminds us that loving God is shown through obedience. True love for Him is not just spoken—it is lived out in daily choices.

WAYS TO TEACH CHILDREN TO LOVE GOD

Here are some practical ways to help children develop a deep love for God:

1. Be an Example – Show your love for God in the way you live, pray, and serve.

2. Read the Bible Together – Help children understand God’s love through His Word.

3. Encourage Gratitude – Teach them to thank God for His blessings.

4. Teach Them to Serve Others – Loving God means showing His love to others.

5. Make Worship a Lifestyle – Encourage singing, praying, and celebrating God daily.

ACTIVITY: LOVE IN ACTION

What You’ll Need:
A small journal or notebook for your child.

How It Works:

1. Each day, have your child write or draw one way they showed love for God (e.g., obeying their parents, helping a friend, praying).

2. At the end of the week, review their entries together and talk about what they learned.

This activity helps children understand that loving God is reflected in their daily actions.

REFLECTION TIME FOR PARENTS

Ask yourself:

1. Do I model a genuine love for God in my daily life?

2. How can I help my child express their love for God more?

3. What changes can I make in my home to strengthen my child’s love for God?

LET’S HAVE A WORD OF PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for loving us unconditionally. Help us as parents to teach our children what it truly means to love You—not just with words, but with their hearts and actions. Give us the wisdom to guide them in obedience and faith. In Jesus Name, we pray. Amen.

LOOKING AHEAD

Tomorrow, we will explore Obedience to God: Why It Matters for Children—helping them understand that obedience brings blessings and draws them closer to Him. Stay tuned!

CLOSING BLESSING

Thank you for joining today’s episode of the Train up a Child Parenting Podcast. May your child’s love for God grow deeper each day as they learn to honour Him in all they do.

Business Ideas Worth Exploring in Nigeria Right Now

We're already past the halfway point of 2026, and Nigeria's economy is sending a clear message to entrepreneurs.

High inflation, a weaker naira, rising energy costs, and unreliable electricity are changing how people spend, work, and do business. As consumer behaviour shifts, so do the opportunities. Businesses that solve everyday problems, reduce costs, or rely on local production are finding the strongest demand.

Here are four sectors worth paying attention to.

The "Olodo Uprising": Is Nigeria Rewarding Virality Over Knowledge?

A comment by rapper YCee on the Afropolitan Podcast sparked one of Nigeria's biggest online debates after he described what he called an "Olodo Uprising." The phrase quickly became a trending topic, with many asking whether social media has shifted society's priorities from knowledge and expertise to popularity and virality. But beyond the memes and heated opinions lies a deeper conversation about education, content creation, and success in today's digital age.
