THIS WEEK’S THEME: Teaching Children to Love and Obey God
TODAY'S TOPIC: Helping Children Develop a Heart for God’s Word
Hello, dear parents,
Welcome to today’s episode of the Train up a Child Parenting Podcast. I am Pastor August, your daily parenting podcast host.
This week, we have been exploring how to teach our children to love and obey God. Today, we will focus on how to cultivate in them a deep love for God’s Word—so that Scripture becomes a source of guidance, strength, and joy in their lives.

WHY A LOVE FOR GOD’S WORD IS IMPORTANT
Helping children develop a love for the Bible is one of the greatest gifts we can give them. God’s Word is a source of wisdom, comfort, and instruction. When children delight in Scripture, they:
Grow in their understanding of who God is.
Learn how to make wise choices based on biblical principles.
Build a strong foundation for their faith that will last a lifetime.
Experience God’s guidance and peace in their daily lives.
Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Teaching our children to love Scripture ensures that they will always have a guiding light, no matter what challenges they face.
GUIDING SCRIPTURE FOR THE DAY
Joshua 1:8 – “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
This verse reminds us that consistent engagement with God’s Word leads to a life of wisdom, strength, and blessing.
PRACTICAL WAYS TO INSTIL A LOVE FOR SCRIPTURE
Here are some effective ways to help children develop a passion for the Bible:
1. Make Bible Reading a Daily Habit – Set a specific time for reading Scripture together, such as during breakfast or bedtime.
2. Use a Child-Friendly Bible – Choose a version that is easy for children to understand, like a storybook Bible for younger ones.
3. Encourage Scripture Memorisation – Make learning Bible verses fun by turning them into songs, hand motions, or challenges.
4. Discuss the Bible’s Relevance – Show children how biblical principles apply to their everyday experiences.
5. Lead by Example – Let your children see you reading and enjoying God’s Word in your own life.
ACTIVITY: BIBLE TREASURE HUNT
What You’ll Need:
A Bible
Small notes with Bible verses written on them
A reward (such as a small treat or sticker)
How It Works:
1. Write out several short Bible verses on small pieces of paper.
2. Hide them around your home, making it a fun treasure hunt.
3. Challenge your child to find them and read each verse aloud.
4. Discuss the meaning of each verse together.
This activity helps children see Scripture as exciting and valuable—something worth searching for!
REFLECTION TIME FOR PARENTS
Take a moment to reflect on these questions:
1. Do I prioritise reading and discussing Scripture with my children?
2. How can I make the Bible more engaging for my child’s age and learning style?
3. Am I demonstrating a personal love for God’s Word that my children can see and follow?
Let’s ask God for the wisdom and discipline to make His Word a central part of our family life.
LET’S HAVE A WORD OF PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of Your Word. Help us, as parents, to cultivate in our children a deep love for Scripture. May they delight in Your truth, seek wisdom from Your teachings, and grow in their faith daily. Give us the grace to lead by example, making Your Word the foundation of our homes. In Jesus Name, we pray. Amen.
LOOKING AHEAD
Tomorrow, we will discuss Trusting God Even When It’s Hard—helping children understand that obedience to God isn’t always easy but is always worth it. Stay tuned!
CLOSING BLESSING
Thank you for joining today’s episode of the Train up a Child Parenting Podcast. May your home be filled with a deep love for God’s Word, shaping your children into strong and faithful followers of Christ.
