1) Kano Holds Mass Wedding for 1,500 Couples
Kano State has held a mass wedding for 1,500 couples, with the government providing financial support and household items to help newlyweds set up their homes.
The programme, organised through the Kano State Hisbah Board, focused on beneficiaries including widows, divorcees and young women who needed support with the cost of marriage.
Each bride received ₦200,000, covering dowry and startup support, alongside household items. The couples also went through medical screening before the wedding.
The state says the programme is aimed at supporting vulnerable people and reducing the financial burden of getting married.
2) Davido Calls for International Attention on Osun Election
Davido has called on the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the August 15 Osun State governorship election.
In a post on X on August 11, the singer tagged US President Donald Trump and raised concerns about political tension, violence and intimidation ahead of the vote.
“I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected.”
Davido's intervention has drawn attention because his uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election in the contest.
3) BBNaija Season 11: Martins Becomes First Eviction Casualty
The first eviction of BBNaija Season 11 has happened, with Martins becoming the first housemate to leave the show.
