There’s this Igbo brothers that fry akara and yams close to Agege Police Station, just a few walks away on Balogun Rd opposite Zenith Bank, and let me put you on properly… they make one of the best street akara and fried yams I have eaten so far.
The first time I found them, I wasn’t even planning to stop. But the crowd would not let me rest. You know that kind of crowd that is not noise, just people quietly waiting because they know what they came for. That was my first sign.
Their akara is always fresh. Hot, soft inside, with that perfect outside that is not too hard. It doesn’t soak oil, and it doesn’t scatter. You can tell they know what they’re doing, not trial and error.
Then the yam… this one shocked me small. It’s well fried, golden, not dry, not that one you’ll be forcing to chew. It just makes sense with the akara like they were meant to be together.
But the real star is their pepper sauce. I don’t even know how to explain it properly,y but it has this unique, consistent taste. Every single time it tastes the same. Spicy but not wicked, rich but not too heavy. It’s the kind of pepper that will make you keep dipping even when you’re already full.
And they’re fast too. No unnecessary delay. They know say people dey rush go work or move on with their day.
It’s one of those spots that is not about packaging or aesthetics. It’s just good food, steady quality, and people who know their craft.
If you’re around Agege and you’ve never stopped there, you’re actually missing out.
Be honest, have you tried their akara and yams before, or did you just pass that side without noticing them?
