So I used to believe that if someone looked ordinary, they probably was.

I thought he meant call center work.

Then he showed me his design portfolio. Global brands. Clean interfaces. Products used by thousands of people.

He told me his monthly pay in dollars. My chest tightened.

This guy didn’t look rich.

But he was living a life many people only tweet about.

The second one was in Oshodi. A regular guy, sweating in a danfo, arguing with the conductor over ₦50 change. I thought, “Another stressed Lagos hustler.”

Weeks later, I found out he owned two dispatch bikes and had contracts delivering for online stores. He wasn’t chasing clout. He was building routes, hiring riders, scaling quietly.

He was arguing over ₦50, but he was earning thousands quietly.

The third one hit me personally.

A neighbor. Always indoors. Quiet. People said he was lazy. Some even mocked him for being on his phone all day.

One evening, I spoke to him. He told me he manages YouTube channels for foreign clients, editing videos, hiring voiceovers, uploading content. He showed me his dashboard.

The numbers stared back at me like judgment.
