Rape is evil. It is a violent abuse of power, a crime against dignity, and a betrayal of humanity. It must be condemned without hesitation and punished without compromise. There is no excuse for it — not desire, not provocation, not anger, not rejection. The rapist alone is responsible.

But while we hold that truth firmly, society must also confront uncomfortable realities about the environments we create and the choices we normalize.

In many communities, a dangerous culture thrives beneath the surface — a culture where transactional relationships are glamorized. Where “soft life” becomes a goal without a foundation. Where some young women are encouraged, subtly or openly, to depend financially on men they neither love nor respect. Where manipulating older or wealthier men for luxury is seen as intelligence rather than risk.

Consider a scenario: A young woman pretends affection for an elderly man. She accepts expensive gifts, shops in high-end malls, posts curated photos online, and privately mocks the man’s emotional investment. She plans to leave once she has extracted enough benefit.

Now imagine that man is not just emotionally immature — but morally corrupt. Imagine he feels entitled to her body because of the money he spent. Imagine he reacts violently when rejected.

Would his violence be her fault? Absolutely not.

But would the situation have been avoidable? Possibly, yes.

This is the hard distinction society struggles to make: Responsibility for rape always belongs to the rapist. But wisdom about risk belongs to everyone.

We must stop teaching young women that survival or success lies in dependency. Financial manipulation is not empowerment. It is exposure. It places one in proximity to individuals whose character is untested and whose boundaries may not exist.

The same society that condemns rape sometimes romanticizes material dependency. It applauds luxury funded by strangers. It glorifies “using him before he uses you.” But human beings are not vending machines. When emotional deceit mixes with entitlement, volatility often follows.

Again, none of this excuses rape. A man who assaults a woman because she rejected him is a criminal. Period.

However, empowerment must mean more than blaming men after harm occurs. It must also mean building strength before harm becomes possible.

True empowerment looks like:

Financial independence.

Clear boundaries.

Emotional maturity.

Refusing to trade dignity for temporary comfort.

Avoiding relationships built on manipulation.

When women cultivate discipline, skills, and self-sufficiency, they reduce exposure to exploitative dynamics. Not because they are responsible for male violence — but because they are responsible for their own growth and protection.

Blame does not heal societies. Accountability does.

Men must be held accountable for rape. Women must be encouraged toward independence and wise choices. Parents must teach boundaries and self-worth. Communities must stop glamorizing transactional survival.

Stigmatization should never follow a victim. But neither should we ignore the cultural patterns that place people in vulnerable positions.

The conversation should not be “Who can we blame?” It should be:

How do we build stronger character?

How do we reduce risky dependencies?

How do we raise both boys and girls with discipline and integrity?

Because the ultimate goal is not winning a gender argument. The goal is safety, dignity, and respect for everyone.

And that requires courage — from all sides.
