I usually write something like:

Step 3: Sell yourself with examples

Don’t just repeat your CV. Talk about what you actually did:

• Grew my university club Instagram by 60% in 3 months

• Managed content for a small Lagos-based startup

• Ran campaigns that got more people signing up for events

One or two short, relevant examples go a long way.

Step 4: Show enthusiasm

Employers want people who care. A simple line like:

“I’m excited about the chance to bring my skills in content creation and engagement to help [Company] grow its online presence” works perfectly.

Step 5: Close politely

End with:

“Thank you for considering my application. I would love the opportunity to discuss how I can contribute to your team.”

Then sign off with “Warm regards,” and add your name below.

Tips I learned the hard way:

• Keep it under one page—hiring managers don’t have time for essays

• Avoid empty words like “hardworking” without proof

• Proofread carefully—grammar mistakes make a bad impression
