EFFORT IS NOT ENOUGH

Ecclesiastes 9:11 I have seen something else under the sun: The race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all. (NIV)

An irony we see on earth is a man who puts in all the effort he could to be a success yet after everything does not come close to it. Effort is good, it is required. But through man's history we can tell that it is not enough.

If all that's required to be successful and prosperity is effort and desire then a lot of people would have long made it. There is something extra. And anyone who truly wants to succeed in life needs to recognize it and walk in line.

Our theme scripture shows that being swift is not enough, being strong is not enough, being wise is not enough, being brilliant is not enough, being learned is not enough. There is something more, the Bible says "...but time and chance happen to them all."

You have to recognize your time and chance and take advantage of it. At times you don't have not because you have not done enough. Things aren't working exactly as you want not because you are not swift, strong, wise, brilliant or learned enough but your time and chance.

When you keep God at the center of your life and remain consistent with Him irrespective of what comes your way you will be able to recognize and take advantage of your time and chance when it arrives.

PRAYER

Precious Father, I do not rely on my efforts to succeed and be prosperous in this life. Through your Word and even my own experience I have learned that the race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all. Help me Lord to recognize my time and chance and take advantage of it, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
