I kept telling myself the same thing so many people tell themselves: "Who am I to write a book? What I know, everybody already knows."

That belief nearly cost me twenty books later.

Here's what changed my mind — and what I wish someone had told me before I wasted years sitting on a message that was never meant to stay in my head.

The knowledge you think is "common" is somebody's breakthrough

I remember a teacher I once spoke with. She felt her classroom stories were too small to write about — just everyday things that happened between her and her students. She wrote them anyway. Today, that same "small" book is used to train new teachers across the country.

That's the pattern I've seen over and over: what feels ordinary to you because it came easily to you is exactly the thing someone else has been praying for an answer to.

Your story doesn't need permission to matter

I used to think a book needed a dramatic testimony or a rare kind of wisdom before it deserved to exist. It doesn't. Every author, every teacher, every voice that has shaped someone's life started exactly where you're standing right now — with one idea and a decision to actually sit down and write it.

Newton said it best: "If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of those who have gone ahead of me." Somebody's future is standing on the book you haven't written yet.

What I'd say to anyone sitting on a message right now

Don't let the fear of "it's not polished enough" bury something that could genuinely change a life. The polish can come later — editors, feedback, revisions, all of that comes after. What can't come later is the decision to start.

Write it.

Publish it.

Share it.
