1. I Waited for Recruitment to Open

The Nigerian Army doesn’t recruit all year round.

They announce recruitment for:

• Tradesmen and women

• Non tradesmen and women

• Direct Short Service (for graduates and professionals)

Once recruitment opens, the form is completed online through the official Nigerian Army recruitment portal.

The form is free. If anyone asks you to pay for the form itself, that’s a red flag.

2. I Checked If I Met the Requirements

Before filling anything, I confirmed I qualified.

General requirements usually include:

• Nigerian by birth

• Minimum of 18 years and maximum age depending on category

• At least 4 credits in WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB including English

• Medical and physical fitness

• No criminal record

For trades or graduate positions, additional qualifications are required.

Don’t rush to apply if you don’t meet the criteria. They verify everything.

3. Filling the Online Form

I carefully filled:

• Personal information

• Educational history

• Next of kin details

• State and local government of origin

You must upload the correct documents. Any mistake can disqualify you.

After submission, I printed out my application slip. Keep that safe.

4. Shortlisting and Screening

After some weeks, shortlisted names are published.

If you’re shortlisted, you’ll be invited for:

• Physical screening

• Document verification

• Medical tests

• Aptitude test

This stage is serious. They check original certificates. They check fitness. They check discipline.

Start preparing physically before screening. Running, push ups, stamina. It helps.

5. Final Selection and Training

If you scale through screening, you’ll receive instructions for training.

Training is not easy. It’s intense and disciplined. But that’s the point.

The Nigerian Army is looking for resilience, not just certificates.
