Before we begin, I need you to forget almost everything you've been told.

Forget the idea that awareness is just meditation.

Forget the image of some monk sitting cross-legged on a mountain somewhere while the rest of us deal with real problems.

Forget that being "present" means pretending nothing bothers you.

Because if the last few years have taught me anything, it's that awareness is probably one of the most practical skills a human being can develop.

The kind of practical that explains why the same relationship keeps happening with different people.

Why you keep procrastinating on the things you say matter most.

Why one comment ruins your entire day while someone else wouldn't even notice it.

And why so many of us feel like we're living life instead of watching ourselves perform it.

Quick disclaimer before I continue:

I am not a monk.

I'm not a psychologist.

I'm not a spiritual teacher.

I'm just a 22 year old Nigerian who spent years believing something was fundamentally wrong with me and became obsessed with understanding why.

I didn't grow up searching for enlightenment.

I grew up searching for an explanation.

For years I thought the answer was somewhere on the internet.

Maybe ADHD.

Maybe anxiety.

Maybe depression.

Maybe I was simply different.

So I did what a lot of people do.

I consumed.

Videos.

Podcasts.

Books.

More videos.

More podcasts.

More books.

Some of them changed my life.

Most of them just gave me new words to describe the same suffering.

Then I read The Power of Now.

To be honest, I didn't even fully understand it the first time.

But one idea wouldn't leave me alone.

The idea that I wasn't observing my mind.

I was identified with it.

Later, while reading A Course in Miracles, another thought hit me.

What if many of the things we've spent generations calling curses, destiny, attacks, or fate are simply patterns we never learned to recognize?

That question changed how I look at almost everything.

It changed how I understand shame.

Fear.

Control.

People-pleasing.

Even success.

The more I observed myself, the less random my life started to feel.

The same emotions appeared under different circumstances.

The same fears wore different masks.

The same story kept introducing itself through different people.

The actors changed.

The script didn't.

Which is exactly why I wanted to write this.

Because I don't think most people are trapped by their circumstances.

I think they're trapped by patterns they mistake for reality.

And once you see the pattern...

You can never unsee it.
