With the new Nigeria tax law, how much should actually leave my salary every month?

My payslip has started speaking a language I don’t understand 😅 If someone earns ₦300k, ₦500k or ₦1m monthly, what should PAYE look like after pension and rent relief? Is there a calculator using the actual 2026 rules?

The 2026 system is progressive, not one flat percentage on your whole salary. After the allowed deductions and reliefs, the first ₦800,000 of taxable income is at 0%, the next ₦2.2m at 15%, the next ₦9m at 18%, then 21%, 23% and 25% as taxable income rises. Pension and qualifying NHF, NHIS and life-insurance contributions can reduce taxable income. Rent relief is 20% of the rent you actually paid, capped at ₦500,000 a year. This is why two people earning the same gross salary can still have different PAYE. Ask payroll for the annual taxable-income breakdown, then compare it with the 2026 JRB guidelines or a state revenue-service calculator—PAYE should not be a mysterious debit.

Short version: “I earn ₦500k, what is my tax?” still needs small supporting cast 😅 Your pension, salary structure, rent relief and other allowed deductions matter. Ask HR for the calculation, not only the final figure on your payslip. If they cannot show how annual gross became taxable income and then monthly PAYE, something is missing.
