Most people think the tongue has one main job:
Tasting food.
But honestly, your tongue is doing way more than that. 😂
It helps you move food around your mouth, push it between your teeth while chewing, and then help move it toward your throat when you swallow.
And without your tongue, speaking would also be much harder.
Your tongue changes shape and position to help you make different sounds. That's why even small changes in how you move it can affect the way certain words sound.
It also has different types of structures called papillae on its surface. Some contain taste buds, while others mainly help with grip and movement of food.
So while you're eating your favourite meal, your tongue is basically doing several jobs at once:
Moving the food.
Helping you taste it.
Helping you swallow.
Helping you talk.
And somehow, it does all of this without you having to consciously plan every movement. 😭
Quick fact: Your tongue is a muscular organ that plays important roles in taste, chewing, swallowing and speech.
