There was a time when women were simply told to “manage” period pain.
Take a painkiller.
Drink something hot.
Sleep it off.
And continue with your day.
But what if the pain happens every single month and starts affecting your actual life?
Here are some signs that your period pain may deserve more attention:
🩸 You regularly miss school or work because of your period.
🩸 The pain is so severe that you struggle to sleep, eat, walk or carry out your normal activities.
🩸 You experience vomiting, dizziness or extreme weakness during your period.
🩸 You need pain medication just to be able to function normally.
🩸 Your period pain is getting worse over time instead of improving.
🩸 You experience pain during sex or when passing stool, particularly around your period.
These symptoms don't automatically mean that you have a particular condition. But sometimes, severe or worsening period pain can be associated with conditions such as endometriosis, adenomyosis or fibroids.
And this is something I really want women to hear:
You don't have to prove that you're strong by suffering through severe pain every month. ❤️
Having some menstrual cramps can be normal. But pain that is severe, getting worse, or interfering with your everyday life is worth discussing with a healthcare professional.
Your period should not have to completely put your life on hold every month.
So, let's talk honestly 👀
What is your period usually like?
A. Mild cramps, I can manage
B. Painful, but I can still function
C. I usually have to stop what I'm doing
D. My period literally takes me OUT 😭😭
Tell me in the comments. Let's talk about periods without embarrassment. 👇🏾
