The first week at a new job can feel busy. You have new tasks to learn, people to meet and ways of working to understand. You do not need to know everything at once. Focus on getting clear answers to the questions that will help you do your work well.

Start with your priorities. Ask your manager which tasks matter most this week and when they need them. Write down the top two or three so you know where to spend your time. Then learn how the team works. Find out where people share tasks, give updates and keep key files. Using the team’s usual channels will help you follow the work and keep others informed.

Take time to meet the people you will work with. A short chat can help you learn what each person does and when your tasks connect. As questions come up, keep a list. Ask urgent ones at once, then bring the rest to a check-in. Before you start your first task, confirm what your manager wants, when it is due and how they want to review it. This helps you avoid doing the wrong work or missing a key detail.

At the end of the week, share what you have done, what you still need to know and what you plan to do next. Ask for one thing you can improve. A good first week gives you a clearer sense of the job and a sound way to begin the next one.
