Here's something I honestly never thought about before:
Your mouth is making saliva almost all the time.
Even when you're sleeping, your salivary glands are still producing small amounts of it.
An average person can produce around 1 to 1.5 litres of saliva in a day. That's enough to fill a normal-sized bottle. 😭
And saliva isn't just there to make your mouth wet.
It helps break down food, makes swallowing easier, protects the inside of your mouth and helps keep your teeth from getting damaged by acids.
It even contains enzymes that start breaking down certain parts of your food before it reaches your stomach.
That's why food can sometimes taste different when your mouth is extremely dry.
And here's the part I find funny:
You probably don't notice yourself swallowing saliva hundreds of times throughout the day.
Your body just does it automatically.
You're literally producing and swallowing a huge amount of fluid every day without giving it a single thought. 😂
Quick fact: Most people produce roughly 1–1.5 litres of saliva each day, although the amount can vary from person to person.
