ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a person regulates attention, impulses, activity level, and organization. It can occur in children and adults.
Common features include:
Inattention: difficulty concentrating, forgetfulness, losing things, or struggling to finish tasks.
Hyperactivity: feeling restless, fidgeting, or having difficulty sitting still.
Impulsivity: acting or speaking without thinking, interrupting others, or having difficulty waiting.
Executive-function difficulties: problems with planning, time management, organization, and starting tasks.
ADHD is not simply laziness, lack of intelligence, or poor discipline. People with ADHD can be highly intelligent and creative while still struggling with these areas.
There are three recognized presentations: predominantly inattentive, predominantly hyperactive/impulsive, and combined.
