I’ve learned the hard way that first dates in Ibadan are not the time to experiment. You need a place that’s calm, looks decent, and won’t give you unnecessary stress halfway into the date. These are places I’ve been to, enjoyed, and would confidently suggest again.

▪️Ibachi
The first time I went to Ibachi, I remember thinking, “Okay, this feels like a real date spot.” It’s not cheap by Ibadan standards, but that’s kind of the point. The space is quiet, the lighting is soft, and you can actually hear each other talk. If I want a date where we’re focused on conversation without interruptions, this is usually my go-to.

▪️Five Continents, Ibadan
This place already sets the mood without you having to try too hard. The fountains, the layout, the general serenity. I like it because it feels intentional without being intimidating. I’ve had dates here that lasted way longer than planned simply because the environment made it easy to relax and talk.

▪️China House Chinese Restaurant
This is where I go when I don’t want any surprises. The food is consistently good, service is smooth, and nothing feels rushed. It’s a solid choice if you both like Chinese food and just want to enjoy the meal without distractions or awkwardness.

▪️Soups & Sauces
Not every first date needs to be fancy. Sometimes you just want proper food and honest conversation. This place feels close to homemade meals, and that comfort shows. I’ve had simple, stress-free dates here where the focus was more on the gist than the aesthetics.

▪️Otis Lounge, Ibadan
Otis works best for evening dates. The vibe is relaxed, not too loud, and it doesn’t feel like you’re being chased out. It’s one of those places where you can start with food and naturally ease into longer conversations.

At this point, I’ve realized first dates in Ibadan work best when the space does some of the work for you. Good food, serene and aesthetically atmosphere.

If you know a spot that has never failed you on a first date in Ibadan, please share. I’m always open to new suggestions.
