I lived in Awka for years, and finding a solid spot for a first date was never easy. You really had to search and try places out. Over time, I experimented enough to know the spots worth trying. These are the places I visited that never disappointed me.
🔳Tianna’s Treats Café (Aroma)
This is usually my first suggestion. I like how calm it feels. The space is cozy, the lighting is soft, and it doesn’t feel crowded or noisy. I’ve sat here with coffee and milkshakes that lasted longer than planned because conversation just flowed. It’s perfect if you want something light and intimate. I’ve never spent more than ₦5k–₦10k here.
🔳Meal Dorm Restaurant (Nodu Road)
Meal Dorm feels more mature. The kind of place you go when you want a proper sit-down date. I like that it’s quiet enough to talk and classy without being intimidating. The food is solid, and the cocktails help loosen the mood a bit. When I’ve gone, ₦10k–₦15k was more than enough.
🔳Nourisha (Unizik Temp Site)
Nourisha is always busy, so I usually head straight upstairs. The VIP section is calmer and feels more private, which makes a big difference for a date. I’ve had good meals here and never felt rushed. It’s a nice balance of casual and intentional. Budget-wise, ₦10k–₦15k works.
🔳Fast Chow Continental Restaurant (Agu Awka)
People think this place is expensive, but it really isn’t. I like Fast Chow because the food is consistently good and the space is comfortable. It’s one of those places where you can relax and not worry too much about the bill. ₦10k–₦15k usually covers it.
🔳Candles Restaurant (Agu-Awka GRA)
Candles is where I’d go if I want the date to feel special. The aesthetics always stand out to me. It’s beautiful without feeling fake or overdone. I like eating downstairs and then moving upstairs to just sit and talk. For the experience you get, ₦10k–₦15k is fair.
🔳Five Star Foods and Restaurant
This is my low-pressure option. The food is familiar, the place is relaxed, and you don’t feel like you have to impress anyone. I’ve gone here for chill evenings and it always works. You can comfortably spend ₦5k–₦10k.
🔳Efere Restaurant & Sky Bar (Zika Avenue)
Efere feels like somewhere you go to unwind. I love the mix of modern and vintage in the space. The Nigerian dishes are well made, and it’s calm enough for meaningful conversations. When I’ve gone, ₦10k–₦20k felt worth it.
🔳Eagles Lounge (Near Aroma)
Eagles is fun because you have options. I’ve eaten, played games, and just sat with drinks there. It’s classy but not stiff, which makes it great for a first date that doesn’t feel scripted. ₦10k–₦20k usually does the job.
Awka actually has really good first-date spots if you know where to look. For me, the best dates are always the ones where the place fades into the background and the conversation takes over.
