After living in Lagos for years and commuting between the Mainland and Island, I’ve figured out spots that actually make work life less painful.

📍 Yaba – My personal top pick for mainland commuters. It’s filled with tech hubs, co‑working spaces and quick access to Victoria Island or Ikeja without spending too much. Great cafés, quick breakfast options, and frequent transport make daily trips feel more manageable than most places.

📍 Surulere – Truly central. Traffic still exists, but it connects you quickly to both Island and Mainland work areas without a long commute. The vibe is lively but grounded. Perfect if you want affordable rent and easy access to everywhere.

📍 Gbagada – Quiet, residential and strategically stuck between Island business districts and Ikeja. You beat much of the worst traffic by hopping onto the Third Mainland Bridge early.

📍 Ajah / Lekki Corridor – If your job is in Lekki, VI, or Ikoyi, this is where you want to be. It’s farther out, but newer estates and shorter Island trips make the early wake‑ups worth it.

📍 Ikeja & Ikeja GRA – Calm, organised and perfect if your work is near Alausa or MMIA. Roads are better, power is steadier, and it’s less chaotic than many Lagos mainland areas
