After a long day of work, all you need is a nice, warm bath before you jump on the bed, close your eyes and get on the bus to your father's village. And that's the plan.
Picture the scenario: You get home my 7pm, have the nice bath you promised yourself, eat and mentally note that you will sleep by 9pm. Now tell me why it is 12am of the next day and you are still sending reels to the group chat?
It's like a disease slowly creeping, swarming and infecting the whole generation. You will send a message by 1am, worried that the recipient might be asleep and then you just see 'typing'. One would think it is only remote workers that are affected but it's the 9-5 workers who wake up by 6 to go to the office that you will see laughing to skits by 3. Because tell me why my 27-year old boss is sending me an email by 2??
Artists will set a concert time at 9 and everybody is active - including the ones that have a board meeting by 10 the next morning.
Social media makes it even harder to commit. Sometimes, our plan is to watch a few videos on TikTok then call it a night but we often find ourselves still scrolling an hour later.
This disease is quietly harming us and we don't know or maybe we do but we can only be in our 20s once.
The older generations say that it is drugs and alcohol that will kill us when we get older, but I personally think it is our lack of sleep.
