My roommate has been glued to a book all day — and when I say glued, I mean the world could be on fire and she wouldn’t even flinch. She’s laughing, squealing, gasping, completely immersed, as though she has stepped out of this room and into another life. The characters aren’t just names on pages to her; they’re real people, and their joys and worries have become her own.
What makes it even funnier is that she hasn’t even finished the book yet. Still, she’s been narrating the plot with so much passion that I feel like I’ve read it myself. I haven’t opened a single page, yet here I am — smiling, listening closely, emotionally invested. That’s the contagious magic of a good story.
She’s connected so deeply that every laugh, every sigh, every small victory feels personal. And the rest of us in the room can feel it too — that quiet, powerful enchantment that only a truly great book can create.
It makes me think about the author. Somewhere out there, maybe she’s just living her normal life, completely unaware that her words are shaping someone else’s heart. That they’re lifting someone’s spirit, making them feel understood, alive, and seen. That is the real power of writing — the ability to reach across distance and difference, to let someone experience life through another lens, even if just for a moment.
And then I find myself wondering: will someone ever pick up my book one day and feel this way? Will my words find a home in someone’s heart, change a small corner of their world, make them pause, smile, or cry?
Lord, let me write something so real, so moving, so alive that it doesn’t just entertain, but transforms — so that somewhere, someone feels a little more, dreams a little bigger, and knows they are seen through my words.
