WhatsApp has introduced pinned message notifications to its stable iOS application, allowing users to stay informed whenever a message is pinned in an active conversation. The feature, identified in the WhatsApp for iOS 26.31.74 update on the App Store, expands on a similar feature previously introduced for Android devices.

Previously, participants had to manually open a conversation to check whether an announcement, reminder, or file had been pinned to the top of the chat. With the latest update, WhatsApp automatically sends an alert whenever a participant pins a message in an individual conversation or group chat.

The push notification includes the label “Pinned:” along with a preview of the pinned message, allowing users to review important updates without immediately opening the app. Tapping the notification takes users directly to the chat and highlights the specific pinned message, making navigation easier in busy or media-heavy conversations.

According to WABetaInfo, the notification system follows users’ existing notification preferences and only triggers for unmuted conversations. If a user has muted an individual or group chat, pinned-message notifications will also be suppressed. Direct mentions continue to follow separate notification rules in muted conversations.

The release brings the iOS and Android versions closer to feature parity. The notification format, message preview, tap-to-highlight navigation, and mute settings work similarly across both operating systems, providing a more consistent experience for users who switch between devices.

The feature could be particularly useful in large community groups where important announcements can easily get buried beneath a high volume of messages. By sending immediate notifications when important messages are pinned, administrators and members can ensure that critical information receives greater visibility.

WhatsApp is rolling out the feature gradually. While some users running the latest App Store version may already have access, availability will continue expanding to more accounts and devices over the coming weeks.
