Not Yahoo.
Not fake pastors.
Not politicians promising “change.”
The biggest scam might actually be this:
Making people believe hard work alone is enough to escape poverty in Nigeria.
You can wake up by 5AM every day.
Work honestly.
Have skills.
Even go to school and graduate with good grades.
Yet somehow…
Transport keeps increasing
Food prices keep rising
Salaries stay the same
Small businesses struggle to survive
Rent goes up every year
Electricity becomes a luxury
And ₦1,000 disappears faster than airtime
Meanwhile, people will still tell you:
“Just work harder.”
How much harder can people work?
A lot of Nigerians are not lazy.
They’re simply surviving inside a system that keeps getting more expensive while opportunities keep shrinking.
The painful part is that many people are smiling online while secretly drowning financially offline.
Everybody is “okay” until you ask:
“How’s business really going?”
“How much do you actually save monthly?”
“Are you genuinely happy with your life right now?”
Silence.
Maybe the real scam is forcing people to pretend everything is fine.
What do you think is the biggest scam nobody talks about in Nigeria? 👇
