A few days ago, I caught myself doing something I've done many times before.
I was comparing my life to an invisible timeline.
You know the one.
Finish primary school. Finish secondary school. Go to university. Graduate on time. Or do a business. Get a job. Buy a car. Become successful. Have everything figured out before a certain age.
Somehow, without realizing it, most of us were handed this roadmap and told that if we didn't arrive at each destination on schedule, we were falling behind.
But lately I've been wondering...
What if that timeline was never mine to begin with?
What if I've been measuring my life using someone else's clock?
It's funny how much pressure we put on ourselves because of age.
At 20, we think we should have everything figured out.
At 25, we panic because we're not where we imagined we'd be.
At 30, society expects us to have achieved certain milestones.
But who created these rules? Tell me....
Who decided that success should happen at a particular age?
Who decided that life should unfold in the same order for everyone?
The truth is, life doesn't move in straight lines.
Some people discover their purpose early.
Some discover it much later.
Some change careers at 40.
Some start businesses at 50.
Some take longer to graduate.
Some achieve their biggest dreams when everyone else thinks they are "too late."
And none of that makes their journey less valuable.
I think one of the saddest things we can do is become so obsessed with where we're supposed to be that we forget to appreciate where we are.
We spend our days worrying about the next chapter while completely missing the chapter we're currently living.
We're so focused on arriving that we never learn how to enjoy traveling.
We're so busy chasing success that we forget to experience life.
The pressure to "make it" can become so loud that you slowly lose yourself trying to keep up with expectations that were never yours.
Maybe the goal isn't to have everything figured out.
Maybe nobody ever truly figures it all out.
Maybe the goal is simply to keep showing up.
To keep learning.
To keep growing.
To keep taking small steps, even when they feel insignificant. Even when they feel like nothing.
To trust that your journey doesn't have to look like anyone else's.
Because life is not a race with a universal finish line. I get it, life can end at any time. But just live it.
It's a personal story.
And stories aren't interesting because they all happen the same way.
They're interesting because each one unfolds differently.
So if you've been feeling behind lately, this is your reminder:
You are not behind.
You are not late.
You are not failing because your life looks different from someone else's.
You're simply living a story that unfolds at its own pace.
And maybe that's exactly how it was meant to be.
So love every bit of it. Then you will enjoy it better.
🤍🤍
But... I'm curious,
Have you ever felt like you were falling behind in life because of society's timeline? And what helped you break free from that pressure?
Tell me in the comments. I'd love to hear them
