When I first moved to Lagos, I discovered that Alausa is quite different from what I expected. In Lagos, Alausa is mainly known as the hub for government offices, including the State Secretariat and the Governor’s office.

Back in Imo State, however, Alausa brings to mind something entirely different. People usually associate it with money exchange (dollars to naira), buying gold, or watches.

And even in some places is known for affordable perishable foods, such as cow, goat, and other goods coming from the North. That’s the Alausa I knew.

In Lagos, though, it’s all about official business and administration, not markets or trading.

It was interesting to see the contrast and how the same name can mean very different things depending on your location.
