I have these two Dr Rashel serums, and it got me thinking about something I see a lot in skincare conversations:
We see ingredients like Vitamin C, Arbutin and Niacinamide everywhere, but do we actually know what each one does?
Let’s break it down simply.
🍊 VITAMIN C
Vitamin C is an antioxidant used in skincare to help protect the skin from oxidative stress and support a brighter, more even-looking complexion.
It is also commonly included in routines targeting uneven skin tone and the appearance of dark spots.
🤍 ARBUTIN + NIACINAMIDE
Arbutin is a brightening ingredient that can help reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation by interfering with melanin production.
Niacinamide, on the other hand, is a form of vitamin B3. It can support the skin barrier and may also help improve uneven skin tone and the appearance of pigmentation.
So these ingredients can all be useful for people dealing with uneven skin tone, but they don't work in exactly the same way.
And here's the part people sometimes overlook:
Dark spots don't just need a serum. They also need you to understand why they're there.
Acne, inflammation, irritation and sun exposure can all contribute to pigmentation. If the cause continues, you may keep developing new dark marks even while treating the old ones.
That's also why sunscreen matters so much when you're working on hyperpigmentation.
And please don't feel pressured to use multiple active ingredients at once just because they're trending. Start gradually, follow the product directions and pay attention to how your skin responds.
I took these pictures of the two serums I have because I think skincare becomes much easier when we stop looking at products only by their names and start paying attention to the ingredients and what they are actually meant to do.
Which one have you used before?
