Well… somewhere. 😂

I was barely two weeks into my sewing training when my boss gave me an assignment to sew a rope and to make sure it's straight, just after learning oiling, paddling and fixing common machine issues.

At that point, I was still very much learning.

For those first two weeks, I wasn't getting everything right. I would sew something, feel like, “Okay, I think I did well this time,” take it to my boss and she'd look at it and say:

“This isn't it. This is what I want.”

Back to the machine.

I'd try again.

Show her again.

Still not it.

Again.

I can't even remember how many times I had to do it, but eventually, I got it.

And I remember how I felt when I finally did.

It wasn't just, “Oh, I got the rope right.”

It was more like:

“Wait… I can actually do this.”

That little rope taught me something I still carry with me today.

Sometimes, you're not bad at something.

You're just new at it.

You need time. You need correction. You need to try again. Sometimes, you need someone who knows better to look at your work and tell you, “No, not like this. Try again.”

And you have to be willing to try again.

Fashion styling has been that way for me.

There have been things I've looked at and thought, “How am I even going to make this?”

Some designs are hard. Some techniques are tricky. Some days, I don't even know where to start.

But somehow, I keep finding my way through.

And honestly, I call it grace.

Because when I look back at where I started and where I am now, I know I didn't figure everything out by myself.

Grace has walked me through this journey.

That little rope was one of the first times I realised that maybe I could actually create things with my own hands.

And since then, I've held on to this belief:

If I put my mind to something, I may not get it right the first time, but I'll keep learning until I do.

I just wish I could find that rope now. 😂

Because I'd really love to look at it again and remember the girl who was only two weeks into training and didn't yet know what she was capable of.

Maybe she didn't know it then...

but she was already becoming the woman who would keep creating anyway. ❤️

Have you ever kept something small because it reminds you of how far you've come?
