There was a time when Ibadan was known for respect, unity, and strong community values.

Neighbors cared for each other like family.

Children respected elders, and any adult could correct a child without problems.

Children played freely outside, and evenings were filled with conversations among neighbors.

But today, many people believe those values are slowly disappearing.

Now:

°neighbors hardly talk

°many young people avoid greetings

°social media influences people more than parents

°online attention matters more than real relationships

°respect and discipline are becoming weaker

Some people blame hardship.

Others blame technology and modern lifestyles.

Older generations often say:

  “Things are not like before anymore.”

But younger people also believe life is now harder and more stressful than it used to be.

Still, many people miss the old Ibadan spirit:

°unity

°simplicity

°respect

°togetherness

The sad truth is that when values disappear, society slowly loses its identity.
