As someone who works a 9-5 in Lagos, I can tell you that commuting is often more exhausting than the actual work.

The mistake many people make is trying to fight the chaos every day instead of building systems around it.

A few things that have helped me avoid burnout:

1. Leave earlier than necessary

This has probably had the biggest impact on my stress levels. Lagos traffic is unpredictable. When I leave early, I'm not constantly checking the time, worrying about being late, or arriving at work already frustrated.

2. Prepare outfits ahead of time

I usually sort out my work outfits during the weekend. It sounds like a small thing, but removing that daily decision saves time and mental energy during busy mornings.

3. Stop stressing over every inconvenience

At some point, I realized there are things I can control and things I can't.

I can control when I leave home.

I can't control a broken-down bus causing traffic on Third Mainland Bridge.

Learning the difference makes commuting much less draining.

4. Stay vigilant

Being aware of your surroundings is important in Lagos. Knowing your route, paying attention to what's happening around you, and having backup transport options can save you a lot of trouble.

What I've also noticed is that everyone who survives Lagos long enough develops their own commuting hacks.

What's one habit, routine, or trick that has helped you survive Lagos traffic and daily commuting without burning out?
