The guy who says, “My brother, this car is first body. Just buy and drive.”😅
Here’s my opinion. It honestly doesn’t matter where you buy the car from.
I’ve seen people buy great cars from individuals and terrible cars from dealerships.
I’ve also seen the opposite happen.
The seller isn’t the most important part of the transaction. The inspection is.
Before You Pay, Find a Good Mechanic
Not your cousin who changes engine oil on weekends.
Not your friend who’s “good with cars.”
And definitely not someone who takes one look at the engine and says, “Omo, this motor is clean.”
Find a mechanic who has spent years fixing different kinds of cars. The kind of person who sees a particular model and immediately says: “Be careful. This gearbox usually starts giving problems around this mileage.”
Or…“This engine is solid, but the suspension will cost you if it’s been neglected.”
That’s the person you want standing beside you before you pay.
Experienced mechanics don’t just look for scratches and dents. They know the problems that don’t show up in photos.
They know:
🔧 Which cars have weak gearboxes.
🔧 Which engines are known for overheating.
🔧 Which models have electrical problems.
🔧 Which repairs could cost you hundreds of thousands of naira after you drive the car home.
Those are the things that separate a good deal from an expensive mistake.
Never buy a used car because it looks clean.
Buy it because someone who knows cars has looked at it and said,
“Yes… this one is worth your money.”
A mechanic’s inspection might cost you a small fee but skipping it could cost you an engine tomorrow.
