One of the questions I get asked the most is, “How much do I need to apply for Ausbildung in Germany?”

There are so many misconceptions about this. I’ve heard people say you need N10 million or even N20 million before you can start the process.

That’s simply not true.

While your total cost will depend on your situation, these are some of the major expenses you should budget for:

-German language classes: N800,000 to N1,000,000
-German language exam (Goethe/TELC, etc.): N300,000 to N500,000
-German visa fee: €75
-Flight ticket: N1,000,000 to N3,000,000 (depending on the season and airline)

So, how much should you budget?

Based on these costs, you should budget between N3.2 million and N5 million for the entire process.

This estimate covers the major expenses you’ll likely incur before leaving Nigeria. It doesn’t include personal spending, document translations, courier fees, or other small miscellaneous costs, so it’s always wise to keep a little extra aside.

The good news is that you don’t need to have all the money at once. Many people spread these expenses over several months while preparing for their language exams, visa application, and travel.

Planning your finances early can make the entire Ausbildung journey much less stressful.

If you’ve already gone through the process, how much did you spend? Share your experience in the comments to help others preparing for theirs.
