You know that moment when you’re in a ride, casually scrolling through your phone, then you look up and think:

“Wait… is this the right road?” 👀

Most times, there’s a reasonable explanation. Maybe there’s traffic, a blocked road ahead of the driver knows a faster route.

But if something feels off, don’t ignore it. Trust your gut.

Here’s what you can do:

📍 Open your own map

Don’t rely only on the driver’s navigation. Open Google Maps and check if the car is following the expected route.

You’ll spot unexpected detours almost immediately.

📍Ask questions

Don’t show fear or panic. Remain calm and ask,”Sorry, why are we going this way?”

A genuine driver will usually explain without any issues.

📍Share your trip

Send your live location or trip details to someone you trust. Even if nothing happens, it’s better to be safe than sorry.

📍Ask to stop in a public place

If you’re uncomfortable, you can ask to be dropped off somewhere busy and well-lit. A fuel station, shopping complex or major bus stop are good options.

You do not owe a stranger access to your comfort zone.

📍Trust your instincts

People often talk themselves out of their own concerns saying stuff like,“If something was wrong, I’d know.”

Sometimes that uneasy feeling is your brain noticing things before you’ve fully processed them.

You don’t need evidence beyond reasonable concern to prioritize your safety.

The hardest part isn’t realizing something feels wrong. It’s figuring out how to get help without making the situation more uncomfortable.

That’s why it’s worth thinking about these steps before you ever need them. Hopefully you never will.

Have you ever had a ride-share experience that made you uncomfortable? What did you do?
