I recently came across something I didn’t even know was a thing in Lagos: wig rentals.

In most Lagos salons and beauty vendors offering this service, wig rentals typically cost between ₦30,000 and ₦150,000, depending on the style, length, and quality of the hair.

Most vendors also require a caution fee of about ₦30,000 to ₦80,000, which you get back when the wig is returned in good condition.

From what I’ve seen, the biggest factors that affect price are:
• The quality and brand of the hair
• How long you want to keep it
• Whether it’s a luxury or custom-styled wig
• The salon or vendor’s location

On the surface, it sounds expensive. But for events like weddings, photoshoots, or high-end occasions where people don’t want to commit to buying multiple wigs, it makes sense for some people.

Still, it raises an interesting question:

Is wig renting a smart beauty hack in Lagos, or just another expensive trend people are quietly normalizing?
