Some of the mistakes we believers make concerning the leading of God.
If you are being led or were led by God to do something and you got discouraged because of people perspective or you are not sure, then this is for you.
Do you remember the story of the Israelites in the Bible (Deuteronomy 1) about God instructions to them to go and possess the land of Canaan because he has given them.
P.S - I’m going to summarize it for context.
God already told Moses to lead the people into the land and when Moses will tell the people, they did not discourage him at first but they changed his mindset. He agreed and he selected select 12 men to survey the land first.
When they got back, most of them said “oh the land is beautiful and fruitful but we stand no chance against them” except Caleb and Joshua (supporting what Caleb said)who said they were sure they could possess the land if they were to go.
Long story short, they did not eventually go into the Land.
So how does this relate to the Leading of God?
Many of us have actually missed God’s instruction unintentionally or even got confused while trying to follow it on our own terms.
But when God gives instruction it’s up to you to act on it.
So here are few ways to handle it:
- Pray
The first thing most of us do is to tell maybe someone close to us or a friend. While this is not wrong itself but you may not get the right perception or message God is trying to say to you
So what should you do, the first thing we are meant to do is to pray to God about it. While praying you block all thoughts and listen to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit on how to go about it.
- Also, Meditate on His Word
Meditate on the word of God. You can decide to open a scripture that comes to your mind during your praying time or even as you open the Bible.
It does not matter if the Bible verse or chapter is not related, what it does is to make your mind clear and calm such that you begin to see and understand better.
- Another one, Be Discerning.
When God sends His word, he sends often send signs that points to what He spoke to you about.
It can be that your friends are discussing about something and you realize it related to what He has laid in your heart or you are scrolling through social media and your feed through out that day is speaking about that particular thing.
It is not necessarily a coincidence but God say that I am confirming what you heard.
Do not ignore such feeling.
- Lastly, Seek Counsel from Godly people.
It can be your pastor, your prayer partner or whosoever the Holy Spirit is leading you to gain more clarity and for accountability.
Remember, He who has called or send you will surely back you up.
