I renewed mine a couple of months ago, and I want to lay out the real numbers because the process online makes it sound more expensive and more complicated than it 

actually is, once you know what you're doing.

The official FRSC fee for a new driver's license is ₦10,000 for 3 years, or ₦25,000 for 5 years. Renewal costs the same, since it's treated as a fresh application on the portal now. These are the only fees listed officially, and you pay them directly through the nigeriandriverslicence.ng

 portal or DLC (Drivers License Centre).

Where people run into trouble is the biometric capture stage. You're supposed to book a slot at a Drivers License Centre near you, and slots can be scarce, especially in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt. Some centres have 

months-long backlogs. This is exactly the gap that agents step into, charging anywhere from ₦15,000 to ₦50,000 to "secure" a faster slot. It's not official, and I'd be cautious here, because paying doesn't always mean you actually get seen faster.

If your eye test result or 

documents aren't in the right format, some centres charge a small unofficial fee for 

photocopying, extra passport photos, or eye tests done 

on-site, usually between ₦500 and ₦2,000. Bring your own documents already sorted so you're not stuck paying for last-minute fixes.

One cost people forget 

entirely: transport. Drivers License Centres aren't always close to where people live, and if your slot is far from home, you might be making the trip two or three times, once for biometric capture, once to collect the card if it's not mailed, and sometimes once more if there's an issue with your application.

Processing time officially is 4 to 6 weeks after your 

biometric capture, though I've seen people get theirs in 3 weeks with no issues. If you choose delivery instead of pickup, that's an extra courier fee, typically ₦2,500 to ₦5,000.

One thing I'd tell anyone going through this: check your 

documents twice before your appointment. A rejected 

document at the biometric stage means rebooking a slot, and that's usually the reason people end up paying an agent just to avoid doing it all over again.
