Once upon a time, a manager planted a tree.
Every day, he watered it, checked the soil and adjusted its position toward the sun.
At first, it made sense but then he didn’t stop.
He began touching the leavesconstantly.
Repositioning the branches, digging into the soil to check the roots every single day.
The tree stopped growing, Its leaves weakened, Its roots never deepened.
It depended entirely on the manager to survive, and the manager?
He called the tree underperforming!
This is what micromanaging does to people. At first, it feels like support but over time, it becomes control and control slowly turns into:
Lack of confidence.
Fear of making decisions.
Dependency instead of ownership.
Quiet disengagement.
You don’t grow strong teams by hovering over them.
You grow them by Giving clarity
Building trust
Allowing space to think, try, and even fail because people, like that tree, need room to grow.
Micromanage them
and they shrink.
Lead them
and they thrive!
