Running a small business in Nigeria has never been a straightforward process. Lack of electricity, increased prices of raw materials and lack of support from the government has made it difficult for many individuals to survive as business owners. Nevertheless, in spite of all the challenges facing entrepreneurs in the country, there is a wave of small business owners who are flourishing.
What makes their stories worth telling is the circumstances they started from. With the current economic crisis in Nigeria, most people are suffering. But the small businesses have not been affected by the naira problem because they have learned to make use of all that they have to cope. They cannot afford luxury; thus, any slight increase in cost means adjusting quickly.
In today’s Nigeria, social media has done more for entrepreneurship than anything else. Through social media, many of these entrepreneurs have succeeded in finding a market for their products or services without having to deal with government policy or regulations that hinder growth. Today, there are young men and women offering different types of services to clients online without the necessity of a business shop.
It can therefore be observed that there is currently a generation of Nigerian small business owners who are self-made.
Rooting for y’all 🙌
