Getting a Nigerian passport isn't just about filling a form and waiting for your booklet.
Here's what you should know:
1️⃣ HAVE YOUR DOCUMENTS READY 📄
For a fresh application, requirements include your NIN, birth certificate or declaration of age, and relevant state/local government documentation.
2️⃣ APPLY THROUGH THE OFFICIAL CHANNEL
The Nigeria Immigration Service directs applicants to apply online and select a processing centre.
3️⃣ CHECK YOUR DETAILS CAREFULLY 🔍
Make sure your name, date of birth and other personal information are correct before submitting.
4️⃣ PAY THE OFFICIAL FEE 💰
The current NIS service information lists ₦100,000 for a 32-page passport with 5-year validity and ₦200,000 for a 64-page passport with 10-year validity**, excluding bank charges.
5️⃣ BOOK YOUR APPOINTMENT 📅
After completing the application and payment, you'll need to book an appointment for biometric enrolment.
6️⃣ SHOW UP IN PERSON 👤
Applicants are required to appear at the selected Immigration office for photograph and biometric data capture.
7️⃣ DON'T WAIT UNTIL YOU NEED IT
If you're planning to study, work, travel or apply for a visa, start early. Your passport is only one part of the process—you may still need a visa or other documents depending on your destination.
🚨IMPORTANT:
Don't pay random people simply because they claim they can “get it faster.” Check the official NIS information and keep your payment/appointment records.
Save this before starting your application. ✈️🇳🇬.
