There are certain prayers we pray with so much passion. “God, give me opportunities.” “Lord, enlarge my coast.” “Father, open doors.” We say these words with faith, sometimes with tears. But if the door actually opens tomorrow, are we ready to walk through it?
We pray for visibility, yet we hide our work. We pray for promotion, yet we avoid responsibility. We ask for influence, yet we struggle with discipline in private. It is easy to desire outcomes. It is harder to build capacity.
Sometimes the delay is not punishment. Sometimes it is preparation. Because what we call “blessing” can quickly become pressure if we do not have the structure to sustain it. An answered prayer without readiness can expose more than it elevates.
Growth requires more than hope. It requires skill. It requires consistency. It requires showing up when nobody is clapping. Preparation is often quiet, repetitive, and uncomfortable. That is why many people skip it and go straight to prayer.
Maybe the question this Sunday is not just “God, when?” Maybe it is also “God, am I ready?” Because the things we pray about deserve a version of us that can carry them.
