Have you heard of emotional immaturity? It involves poor self-regulation, low empathy, and a lack of accountability. These days it’s really rare to find someone with enough emotional and mental patience and maturity to work through stuff with. Someone who can do away with their ego and actually communicate because they actually value the connection more than their pride.

Emotionally immature people only focus on themselves, pick arguments, and think everything is always someone else’s fault. A key trait of emotional immaturity is a desire to blame, deflect, or project issues onto other people. We can’t “get through” to someone not willing to self-reflect or have someone see something they’re not willing to see.

Emotionally immature people grip tightly to their own perspective in very rigid ways. They can also be some of the most attractive, intelligent, charming, and exciting people you’ll ever meet. This is why if you want a healthy relationship, you must value a good character above anything else. This requires emotional maturity.

Emotional maturity
is the ability to self-regulate, self-reflect, and hold space for other people’s emotions. It has nothing to do with age.
Traits such as kindness, self-awareness, emotional availability, and generosity should be your focus when looking for a partner. Don’t settle for charms alone. Be with someone who will sit with you and say, “Let’s fix this” instead of being a child and ignoring you.

Before you choose someone as your partner and get into a real relationship, do a self-examination. Learn kindness as a skill if you don't have it. Learn how you treat someone when you're hurt, misunderstood, or disappointed. Real love revealed itself when you're having a conflict with your partner. The way you handle conflict in your tone of voice, your restraint, and your ability to stay respectful when you don't feel safe tells a lot if you're emotionally mature. Knowing if you're emotionally mature will help you detect if the person you're choosing is also emotionally mature.

Anyone can be kind when things are easy. The real work is staying kind when your ego wants to win and your emotions want to wound. For a relationship to last, it depends on how people behave inside it.
