I met him at a time when I wasn’t looking for love.
He was kind, attentive, and everything I thought I wanted. Our conversations flowed effortlessly, our dreams seemed to align, and before I knew it, my heart had made a home in him.
I prayed about everything except one thing: whether he was truly God’s will for me.
I was so focused on how much I loved him that I forgot to ask God what He thought.
Then one night, during my quiet time, I whispered a dangerous prayer:
“Lord, if this man is not Your will for my life, remove him. No matter how much it hurts.”
The moment the words left my mouth, tears filled my eyes. Part of me hoped God wouldn’t answer.
But He did.
Slowly, things began to change. The peace I once felt started disappearing. The future I had imagined became clouded with uncertainty. The more I prayed, the clearer it became that love alone was not enough.
I fought God over it.
“Lord, please. Anyone but him.”
But deep down, I knew.
Sometimes God reveals that a person is good, but not good for you.
The day I finally let him go felt like a funeral. I cried until my pillow was soaked. I cried because I loved him. I cried because I had pictured a future with him. I cried because my heart wanted to hold on while my spirit knew it was time to release him.
I wasn’t choosing another man over him.
I was choosing God.
And sometimes, obedience feels like heartbreak.
Before we parted ways, I prayed one final prayer:
“Lord, thank You for the love, the lessons, and the memories. If he isn’t mine, teach me to stop reaching for what You have not assigned to me.”
Walking away shattered me.
But months later, I realized something powerful:
God didn’t take him away to punish me. He removed what my heart couldn’t release on its own.
Lesson:
Not every person you love is meant to stay. Sometimes the greatest act of faith is releasing someone you desperately want and trusting God with the pieces of your heart. A relationship can feel right emotionally and still be wrong spiritually. When forced to choose between your feelings and God’s direction, choose God—even when it hurts.
Because losing the wrong person can be the first step toward finding the life God intended for you all along. ❤️🥺
