Let me be honest. Losing weight in Nigeria is not for the weak.

Our food is delicious, comforting, and heavily carb-based. Rice. Swallow. Bread. Everything we love comes with a side of guilt once you start thinking about weight loss. Most diet advice online makes it seem like you have to abandon Nigerian food completely, and I knew that wasn’t realistic for me.

I tried that route before. Salads, foreign meal plans, food I couldn’t pronounce. It didn’t last.

What finally worked was accepting one truth: I wasn’t going to stop eating Nigerian food. I just needed to eat it smarter.

The biggest challenge was portion control. Not cutting out carbs completely, but reducing them. I stopped filling half my plate with rice or swallow and started building my meals around protein and vegetables.

In my next post, I’ll be sharing the meal plan that worked for me. Stay tuned 😉
