The public only sees the amount and the headline. Inside the bank, that is where the real work begins. A failure can trigger a full review of what went wrong, which controls failed, why the gap was missed, retraining for affected teams, and continuous follow up until the issue is genuinely resolved.

This is why I keep my own process simple before any compliance task. Understand the requirement, know the regulation or policy involved. Identify the risk, ask what could go wrong and who it could affect. Review the controls, check whether they are actually working.
Document the gaps clearly, and follow through until the issue is truly closed, not just marked as done.

Compliance was never only about avoiding fines. It is about building systems that protect the organisation, its customers, and its reputation long before anyone outside ever notices.

How do you approach your work before the actual task even begins?
