The fashion industry is saturated and scarce at the same time. There are a lot of ready-to-wear brands and too little, a lot of ateliers and just a few. I was scrolling on Instagram one day and I saw about 5 different ready-to-wear brands selling the same or similar designs.
In the custom fashion space, all we see are corsets, beaded dresses and asooke. We need a breath of fresh air. We need something unique that stands out. Some brands exist but they are few and don't get enough visibility.
Fashion is a form of self expression but most fashion designers don't express themselves enough. They restrict themselves to what trends just to gain profit. One thing I have noticed about people is that they love something different but once a designer creates a particular design, everyone jumps on the trend, rendering the design boring and overworn.
Modern fashion designers are creative but not creative enough. There is so much beyond the world of corsets, basque waistlines and backless bubus. I need every fashion designer to start thinking outside the box. We need a reform.
