The African Storyteller in the Digital Age
Once, a story could travel only as far as the storyteller could reach.
Today, a phone can carry a story across the world in seconds.
That changes everything.
An African storyteller no longer needs to wait for a publishing house, television station or film studio to discover their voice.
A writer can publish from a bedroom.
A filmmaker can create with a phone.
A storyteller can reach an audience through a single post.
A young creator in Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa or anywhere else in Africa can share an idea with someone thousands of kilometres away.
But technology has also created a new challenge.
There is more content than ever before.
So having a story isn't enough.
We need stories with strong characters.
Stories with authentic voices.
Stories that make people curious.
Stories that make people feel something.
The digital age has given African storytellers something previous generations didn't have at this scale:
the ability to tell our stories directly to the world.
The question now is:
What will we choose to tell?
