Everything is expensive. Food, transport, rent, electricity, data… and somehow the money still has to last until the end of the month. 😮💨
So what can you actually do?
1️⃣ KNOW WHERE YOUR MONEY GOES
Track your spending for 30 days. Small daily expenses can become a surprisingly large amount.
2️⃣ SEPARATE NEEDS FROM WANTS
Before buying something, ask:
**“Do I need this now, or do I simply want it?”**
3️⃣ PLAN YOUR FOOD 🛒
Create a weekly food budget, compare prices and cook more when it's cheaper than buying meals outside.
4️⃣ REDUCE EXPENSIVE CONVENIENCE
Constant ride-hailing, food delivery, impulse shopping and unnecessary subscriptions can quietly drain your income.
5️⃣ DON'T DEPEND ON ONE INCOME STREAM**
Where possible, develop a skill or small side income that can complement your main income.
6️⃣ BUILD AN EMERGENCY BUFFER 💰
Even if you can only save a small amount consistently, having something available for unexpected expenses can make a difference.
7️⃣ BE CAREFUL WITH DEBT
Before borrowing, ask yourself: “How exactly will I repay this?” Don't borrow simply to maintain a lifestyle you can't currently afford.
And remember:
Surviving isn't about pretending everything is fine.
It's about knowing where your money is going, making deliberate choices and finding ways to increase your income when possible.
🌍And this isn't only a Nigerian problem. People everywhere are dealing with rising living costs in different ways.
What's ONE thing you've changed financially because of the economy?
