If you live in Nigeria, you already know the math is not mathing. You can be working hard and still feel broke because the naira doesn’t stretch like it used to. That’s why a lot of people are no longer just looking for jobs here. They’re looking for skills that can pay in dollars.

From what I’ve seen around me, these are the ones that actually work.

1. Tech skills.
Software development, product design, data analysis, cybersecurity. These skills travel well. Companies abroad don’t care where you live as long as you can deliver. If you can build, fix, or analyze systems, you can earn in dollars.

2. Digital marketing.
SEO, paid ads, content strategy, email marketing. Businesses everywhere need customers, and marketers who understand growth are always in demand. Many Nigerian freelancers are already working with foreign brands from their bedrooms.

3. Sales and closing.
This one is underrated. If you can sell, negotiate, and close deals online, you’ll never lack work. Remote sales reps and appointment setters are earning commissions in dollars every month.

4. Video editing and content production.
YouTube, podcasts, online courses. Creators abroad outsource editing heavily. If you’re good with video, motion graphics, or thumbnails, you can plug into that ecosystem easily.

5. Writing.
Copywriting, technical writing, UX writing, ghostwriting. Clear writing that converts or explains complex things is valuable everywhere, not just in Nigeria.

6. Virtual assistance and operations.
Many Nigerians start here. Managing emails, calendars, research, customer support. It’s not glamorous, but it opens the door to remote work and steady dollar income.

Earning in dollars is less about “japa” and more about having a skill someone abroad needs.

Pick one thing. Learn it well. Be consistent.
That’s how most people I know started.
