I used a face sheet mask recently, and it got me thinking about how popular these masks have become.
You put one on, leave it for a few minutes, remove it, and your skin can feel really soft and hydrated afterwards.
But does that mean you actually NEED a sheet mask in your skincare routine?
Not necessarily.
A sheet mask is basically a fabric mask soaked in a skincare solution. Depending on the product, that solution may contain ingredients aimed at hydration, soothing the skin or improving how the skin feels temporarily.
So what can you realistically expect?
π§ Hydration: Your skin may feel more hydrated and plump after using one.
β¨ A temporary fresh look: The extra hydration can make your skin appear smoother and more refreshed for a while.
𧴠An extra step, not a replacement: A sheet mask doesn't replace your basic skincare routine. Cleansing, moisturising and sun protection are still important.
And please don't assume that βmore time = better results.β
Leaving a sheet mask on much longer than the product instructions recommend isn't necessarily going to give you better skin.
Also, if your skin is sensitive or the mask contains an ingredient your skin doesn't tolerate, you can experience irritation.
So before buying every sheet mask you see online, check the ingredients and ask yourself:
What exactly am I trying to get from this product?
For me, sometimes skincare is also about enjoying those little self-care moments. But there's a difference between something being nice to use and something being essential for healthy skin.
Do you use sheet masks?
A. Regularly
B. Sometimes
C. Only when I want a little self-care
D. I've never tried one
